October 19th at Ice Gardens (Cardinal Dist)

Postby rkaiser » Mon Oct 06, 2008 11:13 am

I have rescheduled our last event for Oct 19th at the Ice Gardens. I will need someone to replace me as Event Chair since I will be out of town. Also, Joe are you able to be SS for the event? Lets hope snow tires wont be needed!

Just leave the Cosworth key under the mat.
It don't need no snows 'cause its four-ba-four.

Very cool we at least get a chance to run again. I't going to be a long winter.

Also very cool that you are going to let everyone drive the Lotus while you are gone Russ. I doubt that there are too many folks that will be learning to drive a stick while in your Lotus so it should be fine.

Sure Joe, ruin my fun. Finally time to grow up and get something to haul kids with. Kindergarten, pre-school, violin, swim lessons, and the billion other things kids have these days and 3 kids made it a necessary along with my distaste of mini-vans

Very cool, well, not in a sports car way. For some reason I have alway liked the GMC Acadia. Tops on my list as far as "crossovers" go.

The Acadia has been pretty nice. Just have to get used to driving something so big and with a automatic tranny!

The weather forecast isn't looking real good for next Sunday either :(

Hi!

I'm interested in the Oct. 19th autocross, but this will be my first event. Do I need to sign up in advance? I saw the youtube vids and I'm familiar with the autox concept, so I have some idea what to expect. Do I need to bring anything specific? What sort of thing will prevent me from passing tech? The car is in generally decent shape and is my daily driver, so I figure I ought to be fine, right? I'm driving a N/A Impreza wagon with some suspension mods - do I need to do anything to conform to be in a certain class?

Thanks!

We register the morning of the event. Registration opens about 8 and closes at 9. We have a drivers meeting about 9:45 and 1st car out about 10. Bring a Snell approved helmet, 95 or newer, if you have one, if not we have loaners. Probably the most common problem at tech is a loose battery hold down. Otherwise, the car has to be road safe, no cords showing on the tires, lug nuts torqued, etc. You will need to remove all loose items from the car before tech, including floor mats, jack and spare. You can check classing at http://www.scca.com and we can help on Sunday, but I suspect your Impreza will run in STS. This class is N/A 2.5L or less, 1.8 turbo or less, sedans or wagons, running on tires of 140 treadware or higher, unlimited suspension, and steetable, external engine mods. But, don't quote me on that. See you on Sunday. - Will

From the sounds of it I think that you would be in STS. Add some air to your tires, 40 PSI should be a good starting point. Get rides with some of faster more experienced drivers before your first lap. We do have loaner helmets available but if you bring your own make sure it is at least Snell M2000 rated. There will be time to walk the course before the event, I feel it is important to memorize the course. I used to walk the course 4-5 times but found out that I barely have enough time to get the car ready anymore so sometimes I am lucky to walk the course once. The biggest thing is to have fun, chances are you won't be very fast but in the years I have been doing autocross I can think of only a couple drivers that have been fast right out of the box. Believe me, you will get faster as you attend more events. We have quite a few real good drivers in this region and those are the guys you need to watch.

Results are posted! I wanted to extend a big thanks to all of my chiefs. Dave Kirk (tech), Coby Christensen (timing), Will Payne (workers), and Joe Evers (safety). It would be really hard to put on an event without all the help these folks provide.

Thanks too all that participated also.

What a great way to close out the season. Thanks to all who made it happen and a special thanks to Russ for getting this event back in the schedule. You never know this time of year what you'll get but we lucked out in a big way with a near perfect day.

I hope we see lots of folks for the next meeting where we can get together and tell lies about how much faster we would have been if we just had this or that....... that's what I do anyway.

See you all soon I hope.

Well Dave,

Nick said if I just had a harness, that I would have beaten your time. I tend to agree. So watch out for me next year!

Thanks to Nick for making that sweet course and thanks to everyone else who helped make the day so fun. I enjoyed starting on the wet course and watching my times fall as the track dried up.

It was really fun seeing Nick and Coby drive my car in buck runs. It really is cool to get that different perspective and to hear what they might have to say.

The mazdaspeed was fun! I think the reason I was able to drive it so well, is becuase it was identical to driving my car. I was amazed how identical the braking, acceleration, and handling was. Definately a cool car, and probably the best curently available in the fwd turbo class.

Now get those harness' so you can beat Dave! I'm thinking 2 front, and 3 rear  Beat that Dave!
