Ice Garden 10/5 - CANCELED!!!!!

Postby DaveMk1 » Tue Sep 30, 2008 9:39 pm

So the schedule says Helena or the garden of ice for this coming weekend. I assume that we are playing at the garden. Do I have that right?

Yup, at the Ice Gardens. I have even ordered a porta potty this time! I don't know how to change the schedule on the main page. The Oct 19th event has been canceled.

Thanks Russ.

I hope that sense this will then be the absolute last event of the season that we get everyone to show up. After this it's work on the car on the cold hard floor season and no driving in anger until next spring.

I'm excited for this Sunday.

Be ready not to run the same old course at the Ice Garden. You know, the 8 that we always drive, it's gone, I have an idea. Very scary, I know!

So I take it at this point we will be running, unless the weather changes for the worse?

Still debating coming down based on weather mostly and I work till 10pm on Saturday...

Got the car running better, Replaced the dented fender and realigned the hood and what not. It looks like a halfway decent car now!

What!!!!!! Not the same track???? I have an idea. One long straight into a 180 degree sweeper leading into another long straight with another 180 degree sweeper on the other end. I don't even think we will need many cones and if we don't need many cones we can minimize the workers. I think we should celebrate NASCRAP and only turn left. Even though I have a big american V8 and need to crawl thru the window opening I am not a NASCRAP fan.

Should be interesting to see what Nick brews up. I will know sometime Saturday if I feel it will be worth bringing the car or not. It will depend on the forcast. If you are running I will show but probably only to get some video.

I hope the weather forecast changes before sunday. It is not looking so good right now, 50 F and 40% rain. I really want to run these tires one more time!

BTW, who's the safety steward? And who is willing to help out, registration, workers, tech(Dave K), course setup

Also, I'm looking for a ride. Since my car is on jack stands waiting for it's parts. Is anyone feeling generous. I will pay your entry fee. If not, I guess I get to concentrate really hard on the event. Plus, I can make a crappy course and not worry about driving it.

Hey Nick, If I end up bringing my junker you are more then welcome to kick my arse in it. The only problem I forsee is the engine getting a bit warm so we would need to be in different run groups. Not sure if you want to be seen in somthing you will have to "git in thru the Windah" though. So far the car has been reliable this year but I will need to do a little maintance on it Saturday because it bogs bad at low RPM's after it gets over 220 degrees, I think the Carburator might need a good cleaning because it ran much better earlier this year.

Just keep your eyes on the weather forcast because if it dosen't improve a bit more my car is staying home and I might be begging for a co drive from someone.

I also wouldn't mind letting you give my car a good flogging. So if RayARs ride doesn't come through I'll let ya run it.

Should be interesting to see what it can do when all its power back.

So........... the closer we get to Sunday the worse the forecast gets. I have two questions -

1) will there be a "yeah" or "nay" call before Sunday morning?

2) if the event is cancelled due to weather any chance we can put the October 19th date back into play and see if we get a freak good weather day?

Well, if we are in agreement, I think we should make a call by noon tomorrow. Right now, it doesn't look good. I would personally be up for a reschedule. Anyone elses thoughts?

I vote for a reschedule as well, depending upon what the forecast looks like as of noon tomorrow.
That'll give me a chance to throw on the snow tires for the 19th. :P

:? Don't get me wrong.... I have nothing against Tony Stewart, has same last name as me----, but........ I thing he is done. Next season he becomes a Driver/Owner and like all driver/owners they become to distracted with the owner side to be good at the driver side.
Just my .02 worth, I hope I'm wrong. :?

Big Chief says: "Chance of rain early, clearing by early afternoon. Should be nice." (Rain until 9:45am then no rain til 6pm) Big Chief also says:" Reschedule and you will need snow tires" :D
I could be way wrong (about the snow tires, Big Chief can't see that far).

As much as it pains me i think we will cancel this event :( The forecast isn't looking good and the pain in my right shin says we my get some wetness or snow! Of course now that we have canceled the event it will be nice. I'll see about the 19th.

Good call Russ! 40-50 degrees, wind, and rain does not sound so appealing.

Lets just hope big chief is wrong about his long range forecast.

I think I'll have to go for a tour today just to hear some engine noise.

:? Well I was afraid someone would ask that. It's been 30+ years since I drove in one. While I was stationed in England I did a few RAC, Royal Auto Club, events in my 67 850cc Mini.
RoadRally is what SCCA is calling it. You can see all the rules at their site. 3 types, the timed no speeding, the puzzle course no speeding type and the speed/performance type.
It seems a club in Oregon is having and event on 11Oct but nothing closer that I could see.
The rule book is in a PDF file you can read, it's 90 pages long and I nodded off 3X times just skimming it.... It would take one of the head hogs in club to set one up or ask help from other clubs used to doing such and event.
I was just wishing out loud when I mentioned it, seems long time to May09....
