Good Luck Travelers

Postby DaveMk1 » Fri Sep 12, 2008 3:22 pm

I hope everyone will join me in wishing out local folks good luck as they head to Nationals. I think folks are leaving this weekend and racing during the week next week.

You can go to the SCCA website and check the results at the end of each day and you can also check in with Nick via this site as he usually posts from the hotel during the week.

I wish you all safe travels and fast times. I'll be thinking of you all.

Dave, Kristy, and I have all arrived. We drove straight through, left livingston at 6pm, and arrived in Topeka at 1:30 pm local time. It may sound like a lot of driving, but I got to tell you, it sure as hell beats staying somewhere and still having to drive more. It has rained the last week in topeka, so the ground is very soggy. Unfortunately that means muddy pits, but we are supposed to have some nice heat the next day. The humidity hit us all like a wall this afternoon. In fact we were pitted next to some guys from South Carolina, and they also said the humidity is horrible, and "we come to topeka to get away from this!" Dave wins the award for sleeping the least during the drive, about 1hr 5 mins. Kristy wins the smartest driver/passenger award, with at least 5 hours of sleep.

Tomorrow is test and tune time, and I bought some goodies to help us with our tuning. So I am looking forward to that! We have got to sleep though. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Good luck to all. Looks like BS EP and EPL will all be running Tuesday and Wedsday and since the SCCA almost gets the results posted in real time look for results to be posted soon after each heat is finished.

Yesterday was relaxing. Just did the test and tune, and removed the BMW's alternator and battery. Turns out the voltage regulator was not working so well during the test and tune. Luckily Oreilly's was able to get one out of KC. Today, we are just installing the alternator w/ new regulator, and letting the battery charge next to/on top of the sink in the motel room. Walking the course, and going to the SEB town hall meeting. Another relaxing day!

BTW, Coby went to BD's to get VD last night, so he may have some good stories.

I want to and one of these years I will. Last year was my best chance but the car was pure garbage(The money I had saved for Nationals ended up being put into the car over the winter). This year I had very little diposable income. October of next year we are going to Hawaii again . Maybe in 2010..... If we can get the house sold and finally move to the Drummond/Philipsburg area by then :x I hear the CP party is pretty crazy, you guys should crash it for me

Anyway, by this time tomorow we should know the results of the first day. Last year they updated the results after every heat so I will be checking throughout the day. Good luck again.

Fun day but exhasting. Tomorrow's a whole new day and we aren't out of it yet! Nick's hoping to be looking for a ride home. (If he beats Dave he's walking) I'm only .08(?) from a trophy and tomorrow's course is a conefest. Hopefully, todays cone-free trend keeps up for me. That and I'm able to shift into third!! Stupid German shift linkage.

Kristy likened my tight German shifter linkage to "stirring bread dough with a big wooden spoon". nice.

Is that a bad thing? She at least said the spoon was "big" and it seems to me that guys like their spoons to be called big.

Whats up with Coby's 2 DNF's? Was there a lunch break before his heat? I seem to remember the Pork Chop sandwich story from 2 years ago :D . On a more serious note, Good luck tomorow, drive your arses off and bring home some trophies.

I want everyone to know I had a Pork Chop AFTER I completed all of my runs, yes this means I had to wait until Wednesday. :) I just couldn't put any runs together. My tires were part of the problem, but mostly it was my crappy driving ability. This car is capable of so much more as anyone can see in the times the top runners in my class were laying down. Still had a great time and have some video (it's in slow motion).

Once again, nationals was great! The weather was perfect. I would have to say that the courses were the most fun, and challenging that I have ever run at a national. A big thanks goes to Dave for letting me drive his car! Even though Dave and I did not place that well, I think we both drove well. It was very fun having a co-driver to challenge you. I think Dave might have been worried about me beating him, after the first day, and my first run on the second day. But, he prevailed  My story is he has a lot more seat time!

Dave and I did some talking after each day of competition. I think he now knows(not that he didn't before), or had it confirmed, what upgrades need to be made. It is really tough to compete with cars that can weigh 400-500 lbs less than you, and make more hp. On top of that, they run just as wide tires, which in autocross, is probably the most important thing. I know we were the heaviest car in the class, and had the next to lowest hp. But, no more excuses. I had a lot of fun! After my 2nd run on tuesday, I really didn't care how I placed, becuase I was having so much fun!
