Link Question

Postby WD40 » Tue May 18, 2010 12:39 pm

Oh board programming gurus...
Is there a way when openning attachments or links to other sites to have them open in a new window?
Currently, when you open a link from the site, you leave the site and go to wherever the link is.
Half the time when I'm done viewing whatever it is, I end up closing the browser, and I have to start all over to get back to this site.

No biggie, once I do it a couple times a session, I usually remember to go "back" instead of closing.
But, then again it would be more convenient if we got a separate window to open up.

It depends on your browser, but either shift clicking or control clicking will open the link in either a new window or a new tab. Internet explorer and firefox are both shift click = new window, control click = new tab. Opera (my personal favorite browser) is shift click for new tab, and doesn't appear to have a shortcut for a new window. You can also right click the link and pick the open in new tab or new window options.

Thanks!
I forgot about the right click "open in new window" option.

It's just that a lot of other sites I frequent, when you click on a link it automatically opens in a new window/tab.

Yeah, a lot of sites are setup that way, and I also prefer it. Its something that can be changed, but baring that there is always the manual method.

Most browsers (Opera included, I think) also open a new tab when you click a link with the mouse wheel (or middle click).

Thanks for the additional suggestions.
Unfortunately, downloading a new browser to this machine would find me quickly exiting the building...without a job anymore. :(

As far as I know Firefox and Internet Explorer have the same functionality regarding the middle click opening links in a new tab. No need to download a different browser.
