Any word on Livingston 10/8

Postby RayAR » Tue Oct 03, 2006 6:31 pm

Just wondering if the event is going to happen. So far the extended forcast looks kinda crappy. I just allways have to tempt fate after I was saying how awsome October weather usually is. If the weather is shitty Sunday, someone needs to beat me with a wet Noodle. I am just excited to hopefully get the car out one more time this year.

I haven't heard anything from Mike.
With what I know right now, I'd say it isn't looking good.

Are you talking weather or something else that might make it a no-go?

Something else. I am waiting on Mike (who is probably waiting on the airport people) to say it's a go.

Awsome, now I have a bunch of stuff to do Saturday.

Saturday AM, Run to the Airport and get some Avgas
Saturday afternoon, Run to U-haul for a trailer and check over the car
Saturday early evening, get everything loaded for Sunday

Hoping for some decent weather because it will be slick enough because it's going to be chilly, considering I am on slicks I won't even attempt to run in the wet so I will be checking the weather forcast before I get the trailer Saturday.

I got a crazy idea - yup, a sit down kinda crazy!

Due to the way the course will have to be laid out and the location I was thinking that we just make this a fun event and not us the timing lights

Okay, okay, just simmer down but I honestly think that if the course is run the way we are going to have to timing is pretty much going to be hard to do - at least when evaluating your times to see if you are improving. So I just say lets make it a fun event and try things you have been to afraid to do before!

I'd be for that also. There's just that issue of points. We could, I guess, just say the points are done for the year? Or, we could just change the dropped events to one, instead of two?

Thanks Nick!

As for points...This event was so close to not happening and rescheduled and verified at the last minute, I'm not sure if it should even be used for anything other than a tie-breaker? I'm EZ.

LOL Either way I have to drive the damn van.....

FWIW I'd like to have the times and have it be a normal race. I think that there is more pressure to drive well when times are being counted and that's why I do it.

Not a deal breaker either way but I'd prefer the "normal" way.

I know what I said before, but the more I think about it, the more I think it should be a points event just as planned, and we should keep times.

I'd like normal too but I'm just not sure if the location will really let us. It's hard to explain what I'm talking about until you see what we will be dealing with. There is a section in the middle that will have to be driven through at 10 mph! This may be even more complicated if there are any planes there or any incoming. The center section will be the hardest to deal with and can have a large effect on times. I'm just trying to think of a way to make this a simple and fun event. The center section can definitely cause some problems

I'm not concerned about points so I'll leave that to others to figure out.

I'm just a little concerned that trying to run a 'normal' event at this location will create more headache than needed.

yeah, the nice big center section (where the two planes are currently parked and the third heading that way) which would be fun to use which we probably won't be able to use aside from going to one side from the other. The speed limit in that section is 10mph. If there are any planes in that area we will have to comply with the 10 mph limit! Yes it's silly and will be hard to do but that's what we have to do to use the location. It's my concern's with this area that made me think of not using timing equipment and just having fun.

We certainly don't have to do the "slow zone" thing.
We could set up a course on both taxi-ways, and run one 3 times, and the other 3 times. Or we could just use one of them.
I'm ok with whatever, plus I probably won't get the second set of light stands built anyway, and... even if I did, I'd have to convince someone to put together wiring before sunday.

Ah, for some reason I thought we had to do that. Guess I was making something out of nothing. Just a little prerace Safety Steward jitters I guess.
Didn't want anyone running into a airplane or anything :)
