Possible new Solo sites?

Postby DaveMk1 » Mon Nov 28, 2016 9:11 am

I'm wondering if anyone here has any contact at either the Livingston airport or the Anaconda airport. Both look like they could be great solo sites and it would kick butt if someone had an inside connection at either place.

I can't remember the reason for not being able to use the larger pad at Livingstone. The Anaconda field looks rough! Doesn't Columbus have a small airport too?

I don't recall either....I think we should ask again and see if we get a different answer.

I just did the google earth thing on the Columbus airport and they do have one but the pad is pretty small. It looks to be 365 x 203 which is pretty small. FWIW the Commons is 435 x 225 for example. I think one could make it work if there weren't other options.

Three Forks and Big Timber have small airports too. I have a feeling it was just to make sure we were not in the way for any air traffic

I looked at Three Forks and the pads are a bit odd but it could work. The course design could be challenging with the lot shape and buildings but it could work.

The Big Timber airport has a pad but it is very small - too small to be of use to us.

West Yellowstone is the real winner. It has a massive pad 2100' x 250'. But.....they have commercial flights there and this means security issues.

Dillon also has an airport....it's hard to tell from google earth just what the pad is like. The usable pad is either 475 x 210' or it's 900 x 210'. It's hard to tell what the surface is like on 1/2 of it. It looks like it could be very old rough pavement or the photo may have been taken during repaving. We'd need to go look at it. The real issue is that Dillon is a sold 2 hour drive from Bozeman and we might not get many drivers who will go that far.
