Party location?

Postby kjohnson » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:14 am

I just called Mackenzie River Pizza to reserve the big room, turns out they don't reserve the room for parties anymore, it's just open seating, first come first serve.

Suggestions?

I have no ideas for the party. All I know is we can't have it at my house.

I touched base with Montana Ale Works and they can have two options. First is that there is a private room that we can reserve and it would be quiet and private........and it would cost a mere $1200 for the night.

The other option is that they can set aside a large section of the pub area near the pool tables and there is no charge for this. The downside is that we need to be there by 6:00 and that it's in no way private. I've been to parties in this area and it works fine for mingling but I think it would be near impossible to hold a group conversation and be heard.....things like presenting awards and talking about EVO would be really tough to do and be heard.

So as nice as it is that they could make space for us I'm not sure that it would be the best choice for us.

The other thought I had was using a room at the Commons. We could have a potluck or we could bring a big pile of pizzas. I don't know what rules, if any, they might have about food and/or beer there but it might be worth considering.

Lastly......I know that the Eagles Club on main street next to the Nova Cafe rents out their main room and we could do the potluck/pizza thing there and I'm sure they'd be fine with out drinking beer there.

That's all I gots.......

I had thought about renting a space and just ordering some pizzas. I just didn't know if it was cost prohibitive to do so, not that the club doesn't have money, but renting a party space might not be the best use of the club's funds. I agree doing it near open seating in a restaurant wouldn't be ideal, but we can keep that option open if we don't come up with a better plan.

Russ, you've talked to the Commons people more than me. Would having the party there be an option worth exploring? Or should we call the Eagles and ask about their space?

I can send Doyle at the Commons a message and see about their meeting room. Pizza from Costco works well enough

There must be restaurants in the area that have separate rooms for groups and meetings. It is pretty common actually. Unless Bozeman is getting to fancy for that.

I'm getting a little nervous about this whole party thing. Time is ticking and I have no definite plan. So options...

1. Show up at MacKinzie the day of the party and demand a table for (20?)
2. Make a reservation at another restaurant that may or may not have a separate room we can use. Columbo's might be an option for that, they have pizza, beer, and can accommodate the number is the back room, but it will still be open seating so hearing might be an issue. I don't know who would have a "private" room for us.
3. Find a place to meet and order a pizza. Dave's house, the Commons (if thats possible), rent a space somewhere (although I still don't know where and it's added cost)? I'm open to suggestions on this.

How should we decide what to do? The options seem endless, yet none are perfect.

It may be somewhat "standing room only" (though I hear that should actually be a goal when planning a party... encourages mingling), but if all else fails we can do it at my house. I would suggest that everyone who is able bring a folding chair or two, and we should be good.

A stack of pizzas and a couple cases of beer... sounds like a good time to me.

If you have the room and are willing to have us I'd be very happy with darkening your doorstep....that's a very generous offer.

Alex...thank you for the offer...in fact to avoid any unnecessary cleaning, I think it would be very cool to have it in your shop....given the extensive work you have done there in the last year or two, I suspect you live there anyway....

The thought has crossed my mind. I don't generally keep it all that warm in there is the only problem, but I could crank the heat up the day before and it might not be too bad. Of course, if it happens to be 20 below that week, it's about all I can do to keep it at 40-45 out there. That said, I would be surprised if we didn't end up out there at least for a tour.

HAHA, I wish my shop was that neat. The truth is it would take me less time to clean the house both before and after a party than it would to make the shop presentable.

That is very generous of you and I'd like to see your shop sometime.

I thought about offering up my house as well but parking would be a huge issue. I didn't even think about my shop until Mel said it "would be very cool" to have it out at your shop. Seating and eating area would need to be sorted though. If somebody has some tables and chairs or wouldn't mind renting some, we could do it out at my shop. I'll even clean the bathroom and take out the trash beforehand.

As others have said, that is really generous of you to offer. If you're sure that would be OK I think we should take you up on the offer. The club can buy pizza and we'll say BYOBaC (bring your own beer and chair). Maybe the club can buy some of Alex's favorite beverage.

Sounds like we have a plan! I like it.

Should we send out a post car or something to let everyone know?

Oh.......and do we have a date. I hope it can not be around the 16th as I need to be away but will wait to hear what works best for Alex.

I talked to Russ (he usually does the postcards) we think because this will be kinda short notice we may be better off just spreading the word by email, facebook, and the forum. I have the list of all our members (with the email's the provided to the SCCA) and can send out a mass email to everybody. I know not everybody checks email all the time, but 99% will hear about it one way or another.

As far as the date, I figured we'd let Alex make the final decision. Alex, if you have a preference let us know, we were thinking of the 8th or the 22nd, but the 8th might be too short of notice at this point.

The 22nd sounds great to me. Cool.

I think we have plenty of time to get a post card out seeing as the party is a month away. I have this notion in my head that if folks get a post card they will stick it to the fridge and use it to remind them of the date. Does that make sense or am I the only person who would stick the thing on the fridge?

We have a few things stuck to our fridge. Plus, I think there are at least a few people who may not get the message without a post card. Lee Lester comes to mind, and there may be others.

Russ, they want a postcard. Would that be a lot of trouble? If you still have the template, I'm assuming you just need the address list from me? I can email that right away. Is there anything else I can do to help it along?

I don't think Russ hangs out here. You might need to call him or send a direct email.

It's an old fashioned notion but we've got a few people who are old fashioned. I personally wouldn't stick it to my fridge unless it's a really freaking cool post card. Something like the Red Pig catching air seems fridge-worthy for multiple reasons.

I thought the plan was to get pizza (so pot-luck not required), but BYOB I think is good. Also, if possible bring a folding chair, although Victoria counted the other day and came up with seats (of various types) for ~20, so not everyone needs to.

Shall we say 6-9ish? Do you need my address?
