21st commons apres

Postby Mel Kuipers » Sat Sep 21, 2013 6:47 pm

I had a fun day, as clearly evident by the wonderful smack exchanges I had with various other drivers....but after I read the #s, I noted Judi had a very fine day of driving---13th in FTD, and 12th in PAX...she struggled to get faster, then in her last run just went out for a pleasant fast drive and made it into the 56s by half a second...it is true I may be more proud and impressed with her day than she was....so to all her mentors it is important to note the success of her work....and as I have said all along--"she can and will beat me"....no, I am not afraid, it is just a fact...sure is rich hanging out with all of you doing a thing we all greatly enjoy!! :D

What a great day for driving. Thanks to Tom for giving me a shove! I predict Tom and that Alfa will have a FTD or two in the future :D Very sad the season is coming to a end.

It was a very good day wasn't it.........I might go as far as saying 'magical' due to the perfect combo of weather, attitude and people. I had a great time. It was also really fun for me to watch karin drive the Mini in her once-a-season event getting ready for slippery winter driving. She had so much damn fun and was still talking about it at bedtime last night.

I also really enjoyed the driving itself. I've had a mixed season to be honest with a hard time being focused and driving smart. In other words I spent too much time 'trying harder' and not 'driving smarter' but yesterday I came closer to driving smarter. My big goal for the season was a PAX win and I came all too close but Russ stomped it. There's one more event toward my goal so maybe i'll get lucky.

I want to thank you all for making it a fun day............I have to admit that when I got to the lot to set cones and it was cold and the sun wasn't up yet I questioned what the hell I was doing out in the cold dawn but it was of course more than worth it. A special thanks to the guys who came from Billings to join us - it's always good to have other clubs join us and I hope you'll consider coming again.

I went out with my camera and took some photos. I ended up with just a few good ones of only a few cars and apologize to all those who I didn't get any shots of. I focused on cars that had cool suspension action - either a lot of movement or very little. Russ's car had so very little but could fold over that outside front tire very well and James J's Honda illustrates how body lean eats up camber and makes you drive around on the lettering of the sidewall.

See you all in a few weeks - pray for some sun and Indian Summer.

Dave

Thanks for the Kudos Russ. The season has been a blast for Lynnie and me. We learned a lot but what a great club to be associated with and what a great group of people! It's been fun tweaking the Alfa ($$$$ ha ha...) glad everyone enjoys seeing a 40 year old car be competitive :) See you in two weeks. Tom & Lynnie

Yes, another great day of racing and fun with friends. Once again a smooth, well run event. And now Mike K has spoiled us, posting results to the web before we leave the event! Thanks to Mike too for lowering his time and making the competition tougher for Mr. Kuipers. Heaven knows I couldn't do it. Good job Mel, great drive! And Tom L. For flogging that Italian car to a great finish, you are knocking on the door to the top spot.

I found it fun and amusing to watch the new Honda racers, I moved out of Honda and they moved in. Fun to see the developments as they, well, develop.

After yesterday's beating by Mel; my driver just didn't come through when needed. So I have had to resort to other means. Today I had to sit down and add up the cost of upgrades to the machine. Time to consider possible changes in the nearing off season. :?

One more event.. Let's hope the weather holds. This season went fast but it was the best one yet.

Rose...I did some math...I beat you by 1.4 seconds....new tires for you gives you 1.5 seconds....but my skills are on the upswing and I figure by next year will pick up .5 seconds (or maybe a little more)...so I think you need to do more than just buy tires....hhhhmmm, what will it be?

Yep, another great day! I sometimes lose sight of how much I enjoy this...then I go to another event and am reminded. Saturday was a much needed pick me up for my entire body-mind-soul.

For some reason, the photo of Dave Firth with the tractor in the background really had me grinning.

Also wanted to mention an observation that hit me on Saturday...Since Evo School, our Bozeman events have not been nearly the tire smoke show that I remember from the first few events I attended. Additionally, when I get home from an event these days, my clothes and hair smell slightly of exhaust from my own car, and not completely of burnout pit from a day of standing in a cloud of tire smoke.

Thanks to everyone that made this event happen. What a great way to close out a trip up to Bozeman. You guys always impress me with your driving skills, friendliness and variety of exciting vehicles. I don't think I will ever be competitive within the group at 2 events a year, but I can certainly have a great time. Getting 5 runs in a row was a pretty fun way to watch my times steadily shrink too!

I hope to see you all again next year.
