calling all SWMTSCCA Top Gunners

Postby Mel Kuipers » Tue Jul 30, 2013 1:03 pm

the Top Gun race is coming in two weeks, and if you look at the picture on our home page, you will see the smiling faces of our club with the trophy that we won last year....to win is a real team effort, and it is important to field as many drivers as possible...without getting complicated, the team with the most drivers has an advantage...so if you are thinking of going but undecided, decide yes....when you read this, you might make an entry about whether you are going so the club knows....lets win that trophy again!!!!

Very good Mel -

I will add that if anyone has any questions about the event, lodging, food.......etc please don't hesitate to ask here or send anyone of us a note in private.

The official Top Gun trophy is HUGE and it can be used by you or your business for bragging rights......BUT WE NEED TO WIN IT TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT!!!!!!!

So please consider joining us for the racing on Saturday, a bozeman club group dinner on Saturday night, more racing on Sunday and then finally a fun caravan home - and with any luck the trophy will come home with us.

See you there,

dave

P.S. - color and bold and all caps added for emphasis.

Registered and barring something catastrophic I'm going!

And I was looking over the results from the #3 MT Challenge and 15 out of the top 30 pax drivers are SWMT for both days...

Yeah, that's right. Too bad we have to haul it up to haul it back again.;)

This year I am going pose on the other side of the trophy so I don't get covered up by the postage stamp!

I was feeling fine until I read this thread....

I saw the post about the number of SWMT finishers in the top PAX positions from this past weekend and decided to go check to see how my region fared (105, GF). Just looked at Sunday's PAX results and only saw 5 people from my region in the top 30 places. That doesn't make me feel too confident. I think next year we'll have to introduce bonus points for tallest wing.....

If we give points for tallest wing, then we need to give points for tallest driver...if we do I might win something...btw, never asked this past weekend, but the wing is new right?..

Yeah, the wing is new..... I watched one too many Fast & Furious movies....

I'm not a fan of how it looks and am a little embarrassed to drive it on the street if I need to do a little tuning while driving with the laptop. Nothing's been done for looks, everything's been done in an attempt to make it go faster. Unfortunately I can't feel if the wing's doing anything or not. Dave Kirk gave me a suggestion on using my GoPro and some string / yarn attached to the wing to see what it's doing back there. Hopefully I'll get off my butt and get things dialed-in this weekend.

Back to on-topic, today's the last day for early online registration which qualifies you for the goodie giveaways. http://GreatFallsRacing.com and click on the registeration button. If you miss the early registration, you can still register online all the way up until the night before the race and online registration helps us a bunch.

Just checked the registration list for Sunday and there are currently 53 preregistered. I don't know everyone's home region, but based on cities listed it looks like around 17 for Great Falls area, 12 for Missoula area, and 17 for Bozeman area. Unofficial tallies, but interesting.

Anybody want to remind the Coates or Dave Venema of this event? I don't know if either would be interested or able to come, but might be worth suggesting.

Hey Gordy -

I see you are signed up on Sunday only and just wanted to make sure you knew that Top Gun isn't like the Montana Challenge and that you need to compete both days for the win or for points for your club. Maybe you already knew this and just can't make both days but just in case I figured I'd point it out.

See you next weekend.

And it is also kinda disturbing how SWMT can have so many in the top half of the PAX and still not have the top PAX spot or the fastest time of the day. Kinda makes things interesting

given your skill, I expect muscle memory will kick in during the first run, and you will run once again with the big dogs...in fact I believe you could do it on a skate board...but if you have been cruising the race results data you will have noticed we now have a crowd of new young people with serious talent...it has been great fun watching them come on...and I have not had a top 10 this year because of them...that is as it should be...

Did we figure out who has the trophy. I just got a text saying we won't be eligible to win the trophy if we don't bring it to the event. I thought Gordy might have it, or it might be at Autoworks? Does anybody know for sure or have Gordy's phone number to get a hold of him to double check?

Last I heard Sean Larson at Ressler had it and that Gordy was going to pick it up for some Vette club function. So if Gordy never picked it up maybe it's still at Ressler?

I don't think Sean is showing up until Sunday.
Seems the last time I talked to him he said he was working Saturday.
(Which explains why he's only registered for Sunday)

I never worried about it showing up, it is too big to be lost in even a big pile of toys....I am going up Friday nite with the MH and have lots of room for it to ride...am picking up Alex's tires at the Bozo rest stop at 5pm, and could pick it up then...let me know if that is needed....of course Russ has a big car now, so may be a mote point

Gentlemen, My deepest apologies for the delay in my response. It is true I do have the Trophy. I will be travelling up to Helena Friday Evening to race Saturday and Sunday. I was unable to correct my registration to include both days, that is why i am only registered for Sunday. Russ, I did not receive any message from you, not sure why. None the less, if someone would like to take it up, i am perfectly ok with that. I am travelling back to billings Thursday morning, and head up to Helena Friday. Doable pickup would be tomorrow evening, and Wednesday morning, i could also drop off. Otherwise, the Trophy will be in Helena Friday By my hands!
