Helena two pad course - 10/6/12

Postby DaveMk1 » Tue Oct 02, 2012 1:31 pm

Hey all,

I've been asked a few times what type of course will be run this weekend in Helena so I thought I'd post a map of the intended design. All the usual caveats apply and things can and do change a bit when the cones get set and tweaked for the best flow.

That said - it starts with a bit of a tight slalom to give the driver an idea of how grippy (or not!) the cold pavement is and then goes into a 140' offset slalom. In previous years we've run this type of slalom here and the speeds as you exit the slalom and enter the double box are 80 mph or so. It then exits the boxes and enters an option slalom that is 80' (for those of you that might wonder how open an 80' slalom is - it's pretty darn quick) and once you exit the slalom you enter the small pad and make a big high speed sweeper followed by a set of offsets.

Then you enter the big pad where you will have a lot of room to pick the best/worst lines around the turns - I expect that for most cars you will be at the very top of 2nd or maybe into 3rd. You then exit the big pad and onto the road and you can see you will finish on the straight section after the 90° left.

Times should be in the upper 50's to low 60's for most cars.

I look forward to seeing you all one last time - should be fun.

Dave

Since I haven't been to one designed like this in Helena.....

Where do we park the cars / trailers when we arrive?

to the right of the start it says GR as in GRID...that is a wide stretch of the straight, and we pit and grid there...it works well

If you are trailering in and don't need your trailer right there you can leave the trailer near the main building and drive the race car into the course area - either way works.

I thought we couldn't use the small pad portion where the motorcycles train.

Nope - we're good. We will try to set things so that we won't mess up the paint but then it has a whole winter to wear off.
