Cardinal Dist Event on 9-23-2012

Postby Mel Kuipers » Tue Sep 11, 2012 11:38 am

the porta potty is ordered for the event the 23rd (and yes there is truth to the rumor I did that early to avoid any Pork Chop Award consideration)...now we need volunteers for the various duties....I think Joe or Russ said they would do SSS...and TJ on another forum indicated he would take a role...first come first served for the following:
1. Chief of Waivers
2. Registration
3. Van shuttle--to and from...I can help shuttle at the end, but it would be easier for someone from Bozo to bring it there
4. Timing---need two
5. Course design (we might try something Nick C did a few years ago where the first lap is a figure eight, and the second lap is a course loop)
6. Chief of Workers
Please don't be shy, if you know you will attend, step up now....thanks, Mel

Mel, been talking to Joe, and he may not be able to make the event. I did receive my SSS in the mail... and he asked if I could serve as backup SSS if needed. I'm planning on being there... so where ever needed, put me down.

FWIW part 1 - I swung through the lot yesterday and we are going to need to spend a bit of time with brooms to get things clean enough to run. It's not that bad but we should plan on spending a bit of time to get it done.

FWIW part 2 - the lot has had sealant applied at some point. As I recall it was in the spring. The grip may not be what it used to be.

FWIW part 3 - In the past we have brought the van over the night before the event so that we can set up the tall candles around the run off zone of the sweeper turn in the gravel. There were cars parked in that area last night and a car there could keep us from running. So if we could get a few folks to drag the van the 1/2 mile from Autoworks over to the site on saturday afternoon/evening that would be great. This might be a good time to spend a bit of time working on 'part 1' and do a bit of sweeping. I should be able to help Saturday.

FWIW part 4 - this final Cardinal event of the season has always stuck out as being one of the most fun of the season for me. Who knows why - but it is. I hope we can get everyone out for the fun.

FWIW - the final part - It would be very cool is someone could bring a good camera to the event. I think it would be very good if we could get a group photo in front of the Cardinal sign to send a copy with a thank you card to the owners of the site. Who can take care of this?

Hey Mel, when I went to go pick it up for the Commons event, the key wasn't in there. I had to borrow one from Tim.

Hey timing guys -

Please refresh my memory and tell me how far we can have one of the sets of lights from the van?

If you could give me an idea ASAP that would be great.

At the our MT Challenge event where we had to move the finish we had it a good ways out in the pad, I would say 75 yards at least, maybe as much as 100. We have at least one pretty long cable, plus another shorter cable that has a female plug on the end for use as an extension.

I had to be at Autoworks first this this morning so I thought I'd swing by the Cardinal lot and make sure it's empty. I found a pickup truck with a small trailer parked in the lower section of the lot. I'm not sure if there would be a way to run safely around it or not. It has Vermont plates and the engine was cold so it was left there overnight.

I would guess it's a contractor's truck and it's hard to tell if it might get moved or if they left it there until Monday. I have no idea how one would handle this. If it's still there we could have it towed out of the way I suppose.

Your thoughts?

BTW - Please keep an eye on this space today and into this evening. It is remotely possible that a vehicle that was left unattended in the lot could possibly keep us from running. Mel is headed over to the site this afternoon and will hopefully give us an update and with any luck the truck and trailer will have been moved.

all...have been to the lot, the truck is moved...the line of cars parked there should not come into play and I coned off the run off...things look like we are good to go...btw, the radios were not it the van...if you have them please charge the batteries or get new ones and bring them tomorrow...if we do not have radios, we can still run on hand signals...there is enough gas for the gen, but will put a my lawnmower gascan in just in case...see you am
ps...did not have the combo for the gate at Autoworks, so drove around it after moving a 4x4 landscape log, and I can comfortably report that the van does just fine off road.... :D
