The last local event :(

Postby DaveMk1 » Sat Sep 24, 2011 4:58 pm

I just came to the realization that today's Cardinal event was our last in town for the 2011 season - that is sad indeed.

What isn't sad is how many great local events we've had this year. It's been great fun all year and today was no exception............a fun and challenging course and cool people driving well. What a good combo that is.

So thanks to you all for so much fun here in town this year. I hope everyone that can will go to our event in Helena on the 8th. I think it will be great to run one more time there and a fitting end to a fun season.

See you in Helena!

dave

P.S. - thanks for getting today's results so quickly. I think they were up before I got home!

Twas a good day. Started a bit rough with a car in the lot and no event box. However, was smooth sailing until we shut down at 2ish. Thanks to everyone there for making it a great event!

I had fun. It was a good course. I felt like my tires were having even less luck gripping the lot than normal, but maybe it's just my lead foot driving style on that lot with the elevation changes. Makes me wish I had an LSD. Really good driving from James, he's been climbing the ladder all year and we'll all have to watch out for him.

Yesterday was a great day! I am also bummed that it was the last local event of the season! Kent, thank you for the kind words! :D I can only attribute that to running every event and getting some great seat time this summer.

I can't even begin to tell you how much fun I've had this season, learning how to autocross and meeting such a great group of people. I was having so much fun, the season did seem to fly by. I am definitely looking forward to seeing you all again in Helena to cap of the year.

So when can we start talking about RallyCross?

I think the single biggest hurdle to a Rally Cross is finding a place to do it. Do you know anybody with a big field who will let us tear it up for a day? I sure don't. Get on finding a location and let us know what you come up with. We also would need to get safety people trained. It is different from that perspective to a Solo event and nobody in our region is qualified for that.

The parking lot out at the dirt track near the airport looks good to me.

And officials, it's a different department than Solo, AFAIK

For what it's worth, I did some digging, to look into RallyCross. From what I read from the SCCA forums, the challenge seems to be getting licensed as a Rallycross SS. The actual form for applying for the license only requires sign off by the Regional Rallycross SS. I imagine that would involve some training by them until they were comfortable in signing off on the application. I am curious where the Regional SS is? I noticed the Snake River Region does Rallycross events.

RallyCross SS Application

The Sanction/Insurance application requires a Primary SS and a backup if the primary is driving and Tech Inspector and Course Designer.

Sanction/Insurance Application

As for a location, the Fairgrounds rents out that dirt arena for motorsports. They just had a demolition derby there yesterday as a matter of fact.

I couldn't agree more - look at the results sheets and he got higher in every one of them. Very cool.

I had a blast. I really appreciate you guys making this happen and I especially appreciate the general feeling of good will that surrounds this group. Needless to say, not all autocross clubs are as warm and welcoming to new faces... Maybe after 20 or 30 more of these I'll learn to slow down and put in a fast time!

Very nice of you to say this. I've seen the same negative thing with car clubs or bike clubs or just clubs in general. I think we have two things working well for us - we make a concerted effort to not be a-holes and we are generally happy folks just having fun. Mix those two things in with doing something we love and it comes out good the vast majority of the time. I'm glad you feel welcome - it's a good thing.

Will you be able to make our final event of the year in Helena? It should be fun for sure.
