And yet another good day.

Postby DaveMk1 » Sun Jul 10, 2011 4:53 pm

Thanks to all that helped make the event today a really fun time. It takes a lot of work to make this happen and it seems like everyone stepped up. So thanks and please keep up the good work.

I'm also pleased with how tight the racing was - the first 5 raw times within a second is very cool. It really seems like lots of drivers are really stepping it up which is huge fun to watch. I'm doing my best to set courses that are of course fun and safe and at the same time challenge and teach us all how to better read and drive a course and be faster at the end of the day. It seems to be working and that pleases me to no end.

Next weekend we are at Cardinal again and I'm already looking forward to it. And of course keep the Helena event at the end of the month. I'm not in charge of course design but can tell you I've gotten a sneak peak at the rough design and it will be different, fast, fun and safe. Please, if you've never done a Helena event before consider this one. It will be a great way to jump in and have some fun.

Thanks again,

dave

looked like a fun course. I am slowly getting video uploaded to you tube. Lets see, 47 videos and each one takes more then an hour to upload. Should have them all done about this time next month :)

I will get them posted as fast as I can but between work and other activities it might take me a few days. I might try the multiple uploader but it was a big failure the last time I tried it.

I am running into some issues. Seems like the audio dosen't match the video. I had this same problem last year and had to use the advanced uploader but for some reason I can't get the advanced uploader to work. I am downloading some components that should make it work but if it dosen't I will need to find something other then you tube. Wish me luck.

Yes it was a great day. Thanks everyone!

Ray, when audio and video are off sync on YouTube, that's usually because of the audio codec that's being used. YouTube recommends .avi or .wmv format for uploading, using MP3 for audio. Otherwise you can try http://www.vimeo.com.

What a wonderful day of racing...good friends, good teamwork, and top to bottom of the raw times--ten seconds...now that is some great driving...and in case you didn't notice, the CS drivers with only .8 seconds difference between the three....and the Kuipers came in with two top ten finishes in overall raw and pax...just so you know, for the divisionals Judi ran CSL so for the Mt Challange so she will stay there...but she prefers to run with the guys...so Ron and I are going to have to stay on our games...oh thats right, Ron is going to CSP---must not enjoy the heat of CS...oh what fun to play with numbers...will miss all of you at the Cardinal event next week---hope you have a great event--see you in Helena....PS--thanks for the quick numbers posting and the format is so user friendly---

it is an avi file not sure about the audio though. Looks like I will give vimeo a try as the audio is still off even with the advanced uploader. That won't happen until tomorow, time to get ready for work.

vimeo was a bust as it only allows 500mb/week of upload(my vids are 300+ each). unless someone has another option these will not be posted.

You three had some really tight racing there - very cool. It's great to see Judi running so well and pushing you.

What car will Ron be running now?

So after he drove yours in Helena he had to get one of his own. Very cool - I can't blame him - it's a great car.

I look forward to seeing him drive it.

Just out of curiousity, how big are the files and in what format are they? It sounds like something is a little off if it's taking that long to upload them. Actual upload should only take as long as the actual transfer takes (size in bits/bits per second of your connection ) . You tube then does the encoding the background, and you just have to wait. But you can upload additional videos in the meantime.

If the file sizes are raw and really big, it would probably be best to convert them to a smaller bitrate/higher compression using ffmpeg or something before attempting to upload them.

They are AVI files that are big, After doing some searching I found that most people prefer MP4 when uploading to youtube so I found a program to convert them to a much smaller MP4 file but it was free and you get what you pay for but it uploads much faster.

Hey Ray, assuming you're on a PC, do you have Windows Live Movie Maker on your computer? You should be able to just open up the original large avi's using Movie Maker and Save Movie > For Computer and these will create .wmv files of much smaller size and decent quality to upload to YT.

I got the vids transfered to WMV. Not as high of quality as the original AVI file But much better then what I uploaded on youtube so I will reupload these tomorow. Right now, between the weekend and work I have only got about 4 hours of sleep int he last day and a half so will try to get a couple hours before I go to work tonight.

Well I would like to personally thank you for putting in the hard work to get these up for everyone. You did a great job of tracking the cars through the course... These videos reminded me that this sport is not particularly exciting to be watched, it seems so slow.

I am going nto delete those vids and re upload the WMV's I have. These also look to be fairly large files but not nearly as big as the AVI files I transfered them from. I still don't consider the Quality great but it is the best I can do right now.

OK, so I finally got them to be decent quality on Youtube. I am adding a title with names and vehicle but may have to guess on some of the first run group people so if I get something wrong please let me know and I will change it. Also, If you want some car info in the desription please let me know and I will add it.

Those are a lot better quality. And there is no watermark, which was kind of annoying. I love the sound my car makes...possibly its best feature!

Not as good as the original AVI file. You car does sound good, The sound quality is what I really like about this camera, Just a 7 year old Sony Handycam but it has always given good quality video.

And thanks everyone for your compliments, I figured since I am not racing this year I might as well get some video, Maybe next event I will also get some photos. I never thought I would put this much time into it though. Oh well, I have nothing going right now.

As Nick said, it looks slow. Driving is completly different. What most people don't realize is on a typical lap of autocross the amount of throttle, brake and Steering input is much greater then a lap on a road course plus it is 50 seconds of driving right on the edge of control, The driver dosen't have a break the entire 50 seconds. Boreing spectator sport? Yes but the excitment a driver feels is huge, Even after all the years I autocrossed I was still shaking from adrenaline after every lap. All the cars I have autocrossed have had big HP but I imagine Driving would be just as exciting in a lower HP car.

Not only that, but often the faster a car is the slower it looks, IE smooth. That said, Russ you look like one of the slowest guys out there :)
