interest in RallyCross

Postby rkaiser » Thu Jun 12, 2003 3:28 pm

Just checking to see if and how many people are interested in Rallycross? I know we have talked about it a little but it would be interesting too see how many people would actually do it.

I'd be up for it myself!

You can use the new fancy GTI for auto-x and use the older Rabbit for rallycross!

I think we would need a couple of people to get some training in order to run a rally-x. I'd be up for some learning - the brain's been a bit empty lately since I don't have to worry about the Cossie since it's running well :D

Russ,
Even though I wouldn't be interested in Rallycross I do know of a possable site. The Mountaineers 4X4 club and the local motorcross club have part of the fairgrounds used as a Motorsports park. Even though it is not huge it is bigger then the parkinglots we use for autocross. Both RCURRIER44 and I are members of the Mountaineers. I don't see useing it as being a big problem at all(It was set up to be used for all forms of motorsports). You might want to get a hold of RCurrier because he at least goes to the Mountaineer's meetings. I just go to pay my dues once a year. Very good chance that we could do some winter time ice racing at the same location.

Your Cosworth should be pretty awsome at Rallycross or are you just going to use the new Subaru.

Who said anything about a new Subaru 8)

Some winter racing sounds like a lot of fun too! You need to get that Jeep running Ray. That could be a decent rally-x machine.

I don't think I'd use the Cossie - I like to pamper it too much.

Rallycross sounds like a good idea. I'm shure if you held one you could get some of the Mountaineer off road racers to help/participate. The fairgrounds would be a good place to have one, but unless you held it during one of their everts (like the county fair) you would probubly have to pay for it.

As far as training, we run our off road events very similer to the SCCA style of event. I dought there would be much difference in the way you set up a rally event.

If you are thinking of training yourself  places like Rexburg, Revenue Flats and Pipestone have many open-dirt roads that are purfect for running fast. :D

Rallycross

Postby JoeE » Mon Jun 16, 2003 9:11 am

I would like to see us get a rallycross or two organized as well. I was also thinking the fairgrounds would be the ideal location, pretty big, and nice dirt.
I think we would need a couple of people to get some training in order to run a rally-x.

That is correct. Rallycross is not part of the SCCA Solo program, it is run by the Performance Rally program. So we need at least one person who is a Rally Steward in order to have a Rallycross. Sean Conlan has moved here recently from Colorado and works for the SCCA Rally program, so we need to talk to him, but someone also may need to make a trip to Colorado to get some training from a Rally steward. Go here for their schedule. It would be preferable that whoever goes is a Solo Safety Steward. I was planning to go down this spring, but just got too busy. Maybe later in the summer.

Hello all. I've been meaning to post much earlier than this.....

The best source for information on RallyCross events would be Tom Nelson, the RallyCross National Steward. His e-mail is tnelson@frii.com. He would be happy to answer any questions on starting a RallyCross program.

I actually have never organized a RallyCross event as I mainly have dealt with the ProRally/ClubRally program, but I have been to a few to know what is going on. I am planning on attending the Solo event on July 6th at the hospital and I would be glad to help out as a worker and also answer any questions that any of you might have about RallyCross or Stage Rally.

There will be a ClubRally event in Steamboat Springs, CO about the 20th of September. Tom Nelson will be there as he lives in Fort Collins, and I'm sure that he would be happy assist with any information for RallyCross, etc. The organizers at this event could also probably also use some extra workers -- If anyone is interested let me know. My e-mail is sconlan@scca.com.

I will definatley try to make it to the CO event; if someone wants to ride with or also go, let me know! If I am able to, I would also be interested in working, if possible. I will email you- Scott, in early September, if everything looks good here. Thanks for the contact info. There are many awesome roads in the Montanabahn that would be fun. Going to the to the sun Highway, anyone?

I see in the newspaper that they are planning on selling 10 acres at the fairgrounds. Anyone know if this will include the off road track that is there?

Rallycross or Snowcross?

Postby RD-SPEED » Sun Aug 10, 2003 10:30 am

Hello all,

Count me in!
I want to try and work for/help the event.

Rallycross is probably the closest event in here (BZM - MT) to the WRC (World Rally Championship) circus! :P

How about snowcross guys?
....snowcrossing in the parking lot or fairground probably more feasible? :?: :P

I read one article in Canada couple years ago, Our neighbors up North have this type of motorsport (snowcross) in the parking lot!!

...and I think, last winter, The Mountaineers 4X4 club organized the Offroad-snowcross type of racing in the fairground (without cones, offroad type of sprint racing)....and I heard from Rob, there was one Toyota Celica GT4 (from Japan) raced on the event....

The AWD guys will have sooo much fun in both Rallycross and Snowcross.....!!!!

...I hope I can LEARN and try the Hairpins + handbrake or Scandinavian Flick turns on the snow!! ....

Russ - I bet You WILL have so much fun with your toys!!...
Driving sideways probably is the fastest way !! :D

lastly, I want to share this amazing drive (fly) by picture from Rally of Finland (August 8-10, 2003) with you all.

Yep just broke my heart . . . he is droping that drivetrain into his us model Celica and didn't care about the car. He was pushing it hard - running it into and over the safety burms - simply thrashed the car.
