Very little body roll.

Postby RayAR » Thu Jul 31, 2003 1:07 pm

I was looking at the pictures and noticed that my car has very little body roll. When I was changeing back to my daily driveing tire I fiound out why. I lowered the car a bunch for the last race and I guess I went a bit to low....... The front end was rideing on the bump stops  No wonder it rode stiffer then I remembered. Probably contributed to the push my car has also.

Next race I won't lower it as much. Give it some camber and play around a little more with shock settings and tire pressure, maybe I will beat the Neon and Rickys WRX next time. Looks like I will also have to contend with Russ's STi even though I am not sure how good it will be first time out.

Nope - still going to have to deal with the Cossie Ray. Been contemplating changing to a smaller turbo for auto-x fun :D No fundage availalbe so it's unlikely it will happen. May look into it over the winter.

Ray, it sounds like you have too many adjustments to make. ;)

Sitting on the bump stops up front would definately give you some push. So do you have coil-overs? Now its all starting to make sense... :)

I have some GAB adjustable Struts and shocks along with A Ground Control coilover kit, Comes with the good Eibach springs that I can get in many spring rates if I get real serious. Right now I have the softest springs I can buy in the lengths I need. It's actualy a poor mans coilover setup. If I went with real coilovers it would have cost me twice as much. Still very adjustable.

The Push was minimal so I think if I get it rideing on the suspension instead of the bump stops it will be almost gone. I also think some camber will be a big help because even at 48 PSI the front tires where rolling over a good amount. I would actually like to get it a little loose so it will rotate in sharp corners.

Russ, Your not going to race the STi. Oh well..... I like the Cossie better anyway. I still think the Cossie would be nearly unbeatable with some better tires(Azenis?) I have got a few rides and it just handles increadable. Scared me how fast you can enter corners with it.

My plan is to use the STI for out of town races and maybe one in town :D The Cossie's stiff suspension and lack of cruise control make it a rough long distance traveler. I have a really bad habit of speeding with it with no cruise control :D

The Cossie handels incredibly well just need to do something about the turbo lag. I notice Ric is getting a lot more speed out of his corners than I am. Guess I just need to go bonzo get the boost up on the corners and get the back end to fly around! I am contemplating getting a different turbo in the future. The Garret T35 I'm running just has too much lag for auto-x. I may look into a T25 (full boost at 2500 rpms!) or a ceramic ball bearing T35 - supposed to shorten spool time by roughly 500 rpms. However, the more wife approved - no money approach would be to learn to anticipate the turbo lag and accelerate sooner :D Probably try this method next time. Time for some 4wheel drifts!

Tires will be an issue next year. My 'ol Bridgestone S-03's are nearing the end of their useful cycle. Will be needing new tires next year.

Ray- if you did that well riding on the bump stops, you could sell the rest of your supsension stuff and call it good. I think you will be able to go way quicker with some camber dialed in for sure, Ray, those front tires will have a much better time of it then too.

Russ`eel- As a SubeeDood, i will GLADLY run your STi at the next AutoX. That car is so freegin evil  , it would dominate so easily. If you want to klean up at the Autox's, run the STi, as much as the Cossie rules- i would wager the STi just has the right stuff to go quicker__easier.(my 13cents)
When Billings gets a road course, the Kenworth will really shine, me thinks.

Joe- can the 911 come out and play and put all of us dorks in our place?

Joe- can the 911 come out and play

I put the pistons and cylinders on last night, actual progress is very exciting, but there is no way I am going to make the next Bozeman event. I probably won't be autocrossing it this summer because it will need some break-in after I get her together, and who knows what other stuff isn't going to work after sitting for almost two years.
and put all of us dorks in our place?

I don't know about that. All you guys are getting very fast. I should probably just take it back apart and figure out how to get a turbo and AWD on it. :)

Joe, how much of the chasis is done? Do you just need to get the engine back in? I'm eager to see your's and Derek's 911 run again. The custom suspension peices Derek made for his are pretty sweet. Any other upgrades planned on the 911 while it's hiberating? Didn't I hear you were importing a 959 engine and tranny peice by piece :D

Nick,

We are all trying to beat you and your hired gun. Who woulda thunk a Neon could be so fast. Then there is Rein with his GT3 Bimmer. He is still learning that car and I bet he can run much faster as he get comfortable. Of course it is a race car on full slicks so I don't consider him in the same class.

Hey, Does anyone know anything about the Silver BMW 2002 that showed up at the last event. Is that by chance Tim Fountaine's old car? All I know is by the end of the day it started to look very fast and also had some serious horsepower.

Yes you are Nick, yes you are. I have a feeling Erik is going to be tough to beat. He just has an uncanny feeling as to what the car is doing and can put it right on the edge. Not many people can do that. I have a feeling that he could beat most people driving their car.

Just the engine for me. I just hope everything else still works.

That they are, that thing is going to be a monster.

Wouldn't that be something, :) a AWD twin turbo 68 911 with 195s.

Yea, what are we going to do about that? ;)
He is in the trailer class. Like Marty says, we have two classes, drive to the event, and trailer to the event. :)

Yar, that race prepped BMW of Rein's is freaky. I was astounded at how it just carved them corners. Just bit into them like a pitbull and tore them up.

Cant we strive for a world without classes??!! :o

I am gonna try to get a Boxster for you to drive at the next event Joe, a red one. For real.

at least it's easy to figure out what class we are running :D

Rein is getting a handle of that BMW of his - his times have improved dramatically! Guess it's time for me to unveil my McLaren F1 GTR

What are we going to do about Eric and the Neon - make times count only if it's your car :D
